Planting Trees Means Big Energy Savings

The National Academy of Sciences estimates that urban America has 100 million spaces where trees could be planted. It goes on to say that filling these spaces with trees and lightening the color of dark, urban surfaces would result in annual energy savings of 50 billion kWh - 25 percent of the 200 billion kWh needed every year by air conditioners in the United States. Further, these trees would reduce electric powerplant emissions of carbon dioxide by 35 million tons annually and save users of utility-supplied electricity at lease $3.5 billion each year.

Now, just think if we all just planted 1 tree each…or maybe 2…
